Keasbey, NJ – May 6, 2015 -- The ShopRite of Waterbury, located at 943 Wolcott Street, has voluntarily recalled store-baked Chocolate Chip Muffins. The packages were mislabeled and actually contain Banana Nut Muffins, which contain nuts, a known allergen which are not declared in the ingredient statement. People who are allergic or highly sensitive to nuts and/or tree nuts may risk a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume this product. There is no health risk associated with the muffins for individuals without an allergy to nuts.
Only store-baked Chocolate Chip Muffins with a sell by date of
May 7, 2015 are affected by this recall. This product was immediately removed from sale upon discovering the omitted allergen on the product’s ingredient label.
ShopRite has reached out to its ShopRite Price Plus Club customers who have purchased this product to alert them to the recall via phone.
“Only a small number of packages were sold and through ShopRite’s Price Plus Club database we were able to contact most of the customers who purchased this product,” said ShopRite spokesperson Karen Meleta. “We are issuing this notice in hopes of getting the message out to those customers we were unable to reach.” No injuries related to the recall have been reported. There is no health risk associated with the muffins for individuals without an allergy to nuts.
This is an isolated incident and affects only the ShopRite of Waterbury. ShopRite requests that customers please check the labels of any store-made muffins they may have purchased from this store and may still have at home. Please return any affected products for a full refund or replacement.
